for Surgery Center

SONY Phone: 855 999-7669 option 4 and ask for 4K department

The 4K system:

1. SONY TV #1 (XBR70X850B) & SONY TV #2 (XBR65X950B)

Compare specs with less expensive XBR65X900B

Click here for purchase of X950B from Orlando

2. SONY Sound Bar (ST7) or current BOSE audio system at Surgery Center

3. SONY Media Player (FMP X10)

4. SONY Blu-Ray Player (BDP-S6200). Needed to play Amazon.com "mastered 4K" discs. NOTE: Older re-mastered Amazon.com discs may not have the best 4K resolution.

5. Toshiba External 4TB Hard Drive (HDWC240XK3J1). Used for additional storage space for the SONY Media Player (FMP X10)

Proper ports on back of TV for cables:

HDMI Port #1 = to ARC to Soundbar ARC input (can also use Optical digital audio input to soundbar) (Disabled at Surgery Center. Used for "remote" SONY SOUNDBAR #2 elsewhere)

HDMI Port #2 = must go to SONY 4K Media Player (Coded electronically to protect copyrights). (Active at Surgery Center)

HDMI Port #3 = to SONY 4K Blu-Ray playback player (Active at Surgery Center)

HDMI Port #4 = to Bright House cable box (Disabled at Surgery Center)

USB Port #2 (800mA) = to USB stick (Active at Surgery Center)

Digital Opical Audio output = (Disabled at Surgery Center. Used for SONY SOUNDBAR #1 elsewhere)

NOTES:

1. The 3.5 mm audio cable to the BOSE speaker system is plugged into the output green 3.5 mm port on back of TV. The TV remote then can be used to control the volume and the audio from the TV, Media Player, Blu-Ray Player and USB stick.

2. The SONY SOUNDBAR will work independently of other audio inputs.

3. HDMI inputs #3 and #4 are technically identical

4. Per Leo at BestBuy: SONY TV #2 (XBR65X950B) cost $3,000 more than SONY TV #1 (XBR65X900B) because #2 has a full aray of LEDs behind the scereen. SONY TV #1 has an aray of LEDs only on the edges. The full array gives deeper colors and contrast. But what really sets this TV apart is Sony’s exclusive X-tended Dynamic Range PRO full array local dimming technology for up to 3x the brightness range. The range of peak brightness to the deepest of blacks is unlike any contrast Sony has ever offered in a TV. It's quite simply the most immersive, highest resolution TV experience possible. Click here for video on 95 series.

5. Per Leo at BestBuy (@ Brandon): Unlike HD TVs, the 4K TVs do not require 240 Hz refresh rates.

Questions and Answers:

  • Can two SONY Media Players at two separate locations use the same SONY account for charging movies? If you purchase more than one FMPx10 Media Players, you want to avoid replicate charges for the same user:

ANSWER:

SONY allows you to sign in with the same account information for 3 separate SONY Media Players (FMP X10) at different locations. However, you can be logged into SONY's server only with one device at a time.

  • Explain upscaling to a higher “resolution” using blu-ray discs and the 4K TV XBR70X850B

ANSWER:

Any Blu-Ray player is compatible with the 4K TV. Upscaling is performed automatically by the 4K TV when the Blu-Ray disc is played. A so-called 4K player is not necessary, except when playing a re-master 4K disc from Amazon.com. The typical Blu-Ray player works by having the 4K TV upscaling for four times the resolution of the original Blu-Ray disc material. See instructions below by John Williams on how to demonstrate upscaling from Blu-ray HD to 4K.

  • Are there any other sources for download (not rental) to the media player FMPx10 with “native” 4K other than just from Sony's server?

ANSWER: The only source for native 4K is SONY's server at this time. You can hard wire a SONY 4K camcorder to the Media Player through the front 3.0 USB port on the SONY Media Player (FMP X10). At this time the Foundation has no need for a 4K camcorder.

  • What external hard drive does Sony recommend for the Media Player = FMP X10?

ANSWER:

Toshiba External 4TB Hard Drive (HDWC240XK3J1)

NOTE: Playing content from the external drive will be seamless. Click here for instructions on using 4 TB external hard drives to rear USB port and the USB Flash drives to front USB port for the Media Player X10.

  • My ethernet cable feeds the FMPx10 media player with 100 Mbps but the player downloads at only 10 Mbps from Sony’s server. Please explain.

ANSWER:

SONY believes Brighthouse limits speed (not the SONY server) even though 100 Mbps is available from Brighthouse. You can download several movies at once with the SONY Media Player.

See instructions below by John Williams to set no speed limit for downloading to the SONY Media Player.

  • How do you delete a video from “My Videos”? I need to avoid clutter with videos that were downloaded but viewed only once.

ANSWER:

Click on title and then click on "Details" in "My Videos". There will be an option to delete video.

  • Can Blu-Ray content be transferred to a USB stick and then played on the 4K TV?

ANSWER:

New software on PC will make this possible:

http://www.tv-converter.com/guide/convert-blu-ray-to-usb-and-play-on-sony-tv/

http://www.tv-converter.com/blu-ray-ripper

Go to AFK's DropBox for license in folded named "Blu-Ray-Copy-Acrok"

NOTES:

1. SONY 4K requires MP4

2. Use input 1 on 4K TV for USB stick video playback.

3. Sometimes, video needs to be detected in input 1 with a "restart" by unpluging and re-inplugging USB from external hard drive into the USB of 4K TV

4. AUGUST 27, 2014: In order to download 4K content on the second Media Player using same SONY account #:

  • Go to Video Unlimited 4K
  • Select content and then download
  • You will be asked for email address and PW

5. AUGUST 27, 2014: "Featured 4K Videos" is a list of SONY's latest releases as well as "Coming" releases.

6. AUGUST 27, 2014: When the Media Player is moved to a new location and connected to a different Bravia TV you will be asked to login into your SONY account. Each SONY Media Player has its own MAC address.

The following are tips provided by John Williams at Best Buy located on Del Maybry Street

How to resolve the shutter effect when playing back for 4K video using a USB port on the TV

  • Use solid-state technology to play back on the 4K TV. Therefore a USB stick is better than a moving hard drive when playing back on the 4K TV. Solid-state technology transfers data faster than a moving disc.
  • Set the picture options on the 4K TV to “Cinema”.

The instructions are as follows:

Options >>> Scene selection >>> Cinema.

  • Reformat the USB stick to “NTFS”.

The instructions are as follows:

Right-click on the drive containing the USB stick. Then select NTFS.

How to demonstrate video upscaling to "4K" from Blu-Ray HD using the 4K TV.

The instructions are as following:

Options >>> Picture adjustments >>> Reality creation. Select “Auto” and then switch back and forth to “Off”.

How to obtain the maximum download speed for the Sony Media Player.

Instructions are as follows:

Media player >>> My videos >>> Settings >>>Download speed >>> No limit.

How to repeat all the titles on the USB stick in a continuous loop.

The instructions are as following:

Options >>> Play back method >>> Video selection >>> All video >>> Repeat >>> On.
